The Role of the Jews in Bible Prophecy
on Wednesday, July 12, 2023 by Bill SalusThis article was taken from The FUTURE WAR Prophecies book in the chapter entitled, “The Role of the Jews in Bible Prophecy.”
In Deuteronomy 32:10 and Zechariah 2:8, the LORD alludes to the Jewish people as the “apple of His eye.” In multiple verses, such as Ezekiel 36:12 and 38:14 the Jews are called, “My people Israel.” There’s a reason for these terms of endearment and this article will briefly explain why.
Possessing a basic awareness of God’s special relationship with the Jews will help you to understand why many of the war prophecies in this book center around the Jewish people and the state of Israel.
The Jews are the subject heirs of an unconditional covenant that God made with Abraham about four thousand years ago. The covenant was based upon some important promises that were ultimately intended for the benevolence of humankind. Some of the promises are inscribed in the passage below.
“I, (God), will make you (Abraham), a great nation; I will bless you And make your name great; And you shall be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, And I will curse him who curses you; And in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed;” (Genesis 12:2-3; emphasis added)
Through God’s exclusive efforts, not man’s, Abraham would gain a “great” name and father a “great nation.” It’s interesting that Abraham is a primary patriarchal figure in Judaism, Christianity and Islam. Thus, he has obtained and maintained a great name throughout the ages.
The Hebrew word used for “great” is “gadol.” In relationship to its application to the “great nation” promise, it can be interpreted as, a distinguished large magnitude of men in number and importance. This large magnitude of descendants is pointed out in the passage below.
“Multiplying I will multiply your, (Abraham), descendants as the stars of the heaven and as the sand which is on the seashore.” (Gen. 22:17a; emphasis added)
There has never been this many Jews living in the world, thus this promise is obviously yet to be fulfilled, but it must happen or the LORD becomes a promise breaker. I point out in my book entitled, The MILLENNIUM Prophecies and the NEW JERUSALEM, that this particular prophecy will find final fulfillment in the Messianic Age when Jesus Christ reigns over the earth for one thousand years.
This large population pledge is a biological promise, not a spiritual one. Abraham is destined to father a large magnitude of descendants that would come through his loins. These descendant relatives are often alluded to as the “Chosen People.”
A large population requires a lot of land to inhabit. For example, China presently hosts about 1.4 billion people that inhabit a country area of about 3.7 million square miles. India’s population is about 1.4 billion also and they live on an area of about 1.27 million square miles. Comparatively, Israel presently is only approximately 8.5 thousand square miles, which is about the size of New Jersey.
Not to worry, God promised Abraham that he would inherit a large territory, which is commonly referred to as the Promised Land.
“On the same day the Lord made a covenant with Abram, saying: “To your descendants I have given this land, from the river of Egypt to the great river, the River Euphrates.” (Genesis 15:18)
When the land mass described in this verse above is mapped out it portrays an Israel that is about thirty-six times its current size. The full measure of this land will be appropriated in the Millennium.
The SEED Prophecies about the Messiah Jesus Christ
In Genesis 12:3 Abraham was informed, “And in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.” This finds application through the Seed of Abraham and this is where we discover how God’s promises to Abraham are also important to humankind at large. The SEED prophecies deal with the Messiah and carry on through Abraham’s descendants as identified in the passages below.
Abraham (the father): “In your SEED all the nations of the earth shall be blessed, because you have obeyed My voice.” (Genesis 22:18; emphasis added)
Isaac (the son): “And I will make your descendants multiply as the stars of heaven; I will give to your descendants all these lands; and in your SEED all the nations of the earth shall be blessed.” (Gen. 26:4; emphasis added)
Jacob (the grandson): “Also your descendants shall be as the dust of the earth; you shall spread abroad to the west and the east, to the north and the south; and in you and in your SEED all the families of the earth shall be blessed.” (Gen. 28:14; emphasis added)
In Genesis 32:28, God renamed Jacob to Israel and Jacob went on to father twelve sons and the Jewish race emerged through the genealogies of these sons. The SEED is Jesus Christ and He came through the lineage of Judah, which was Jacob’s fourth son. Revelation 5:5 identifies Jesus Christ as the “Lion of the tribe of Judah.”
Conclusion
Before wrapping this article up into a nutshell summary, it’s important to qualify why all of the above promises rest solely upon God’s shoulders. I encourage you to read the entire Genesis 15 chapter. In Genesis 15:2 and 8, Abraham asked God how all of these amazing pledges above would manifest. Genesis 15:9-18 provides the details of how God assured Abraham through an unconditional covenant that He, as the LORD, would take full responsibility for the fulfillment of His promises to Abraham and his descendants.
The point is that the prophecies involving the Jewish people and the state of Israel are about God’s exclusive ability to keep His promises contained in the Abrahamic Covenant. In order to ensure through Abraham’s SEED, Jesus Christ, that all the families throughout the nations would have the equal opportunity of being blessed, the LORD had to take personal responsibility.
So you see, this is not about the Jews, but about the God of the Jews, Who wants all of the families upon the earth to be blessed. Even though the Jews have often historically been a stiff-necked people, protecting these Chosen People from their own foolish follies and evil enemies is not an option, it’s an unconditional obligation of the sovereign God.
Are you and your family being blessed by the SEED of Abraham? Remember that God loves all peoples and He proves this by protecting the Chosen People and the Promised Land of the Abrahamic Covenant. The LORD loves Jews and Gentiles and that’s why about two thousand years ago He sent His SEED to the earth to save all souls and bless all families.
“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.” (John 3:16-17)
Salvation and blessings come through receiving Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Savior. He is the way!
“Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.” (John 14:6)
Don’t deprive yourself of the blessings intended for you in the Abrahamic Covenant. Jesus Christ, the SEED of Abraham, can give you eternal life for the future and abundant life in the present. He has risen from the dead and alive to bless you now.
“The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I, (Jesus Christ), have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.” (John 10:10; emphasis added)
